Moles build underground railroads for escaping rodents in the United States. The mounds of dirt you see in your backyard that you consider to be a nuisance: Don't destroy them! Moles have generously agreed to provide tunnels as escape routes for fleeing friends. Every second of every day, underground rodents are aiding our household rodential friends to escape slavery and cages and live life as they were intended to live: Wild and free. Some people have asked if "underground railroad" was a precursor of the traditional term or if it is just an overly-literal interpretation; our answer: it doesn't matter. The fact is that this system of tunnels exists and that's all there is to it. The tunnels are used solely by rodent teams to assist newly-liberated rodents to reach safe havens throughout the world. For practical reasons, HLF members do not go near the tunnels-fleeing friends are frightened enough without detecting human presences. However, HLF members do leave food out in designated locations for the escorts to retrieve. The food is handled by HLF members wearing gloves so as to minimize human scents. While some people find the tunnel entrances and exits "unsightly," "annoying," and "damaging," we see them as joyous symbols of freedom. Therefore, the HLF formally salutes our mole brethren. Thanks be to them for assisting our most worthy cause!
