HLF Tax Reform Taxes--who wants 'em? They never go to what you want 'em to go for. "What!?!? Congress bought another Super Gaflooey XT Herculean Crosswise Spanner? That's the third one this year!" However, the HLF has developed the optimal system for taxation--let the taxpayer decide the budget! Sounds simple, doesn't it? Just watch it when you try to implement such a scheme--you'll be putting thousands of analysts out of work! However, before we get to that point, let us explain what we mean. . . . The plan is, actually, quite simple. As we pay our taxes, we fill out an additional form that allows us to list what percentages of our taxes go to what government programs. Therefore, if someone wanted the following distribution: 45% = General Administration (salaries, office supplies, TP, etc.) 5% = Defense 15% = Environmental Protection Agency 25% = Education Then that's what each program would receive. Sure, some agencies might not get funded; but doesn't that mean that the public at large does not wish to support those agencies and programs? This plan will let the taxpayers decide how and where their tax dollars are spent, and it will be even. Then I can be sure my tax dollars aren't going to support something I don't wish to support--I know my taxes are supporting only those agencies and programs that I feel are worthy of my money. What's even better is that everyone who pays taxes will participate in our government; heck, the U.S. has trouble getting 35% of the eligible citizens to even vote in major elections! Can you imagine EVERYONE taking an active role in their government? It staggers the mind! The downside? Well, we can think of several: * Do we really want EVERYONE participating? We have quite a few dumbbells out there. Answer: Sure. This will put pressure on everyone to actually LEARN more about the country in which they live. * Won't this be an increase in advertisements as various factions attempt to sway us to spend money on them? Answer: Again, sure it will. But we can bar government agencies from advertising and leave it to the special interest groups. We could also try banning these advertisements and create a special neutral government agency to prepare educational materials as to all of what our government has to offer us--real education should beat out fake advertisements every day. (After all, the Starr report is real education, right? And I'm sure there's more than a few people out there becoming, er, "stimulated" as they read that official government document.) * What if something vital doesn't get funded, like defense? Answer: If it doesn't get funding, then it is obviously not too important to the people. People are going to fund what they think is important; just because YOU think it's important does not necessarily mean that it actually IS important. * I have to ask again--Are you sure about this? We have quite a few dumbbells out there. Answer: It won't hurt to try. Like the idea? Write to us at HamsterLiberationFront@bigfoot.com and and let us know.
